Subhas Chandra Bose was one of the great dynamic freedom fighter of India. His impact in India to make the country liberate, federal and republic was immense. He was the first freedom fighter who started a mass revolution to give liberation to India from the bondage of British ruler.
Subhas was born on 23rd of January, 1897 at Cuttack district in Orissa. His father’s name was Janakinath Bose who was a great lawyer of Cuttack High court. His mother name was Prabhavati Devi. Janakinath was awarded with the title of “Rai Bahadur” for his brilliant work . He started his early education from village pathshala. Subhas completed B.A from Presidency college in 1918. In 1916 Subhas was expelled from the University when he beat professor E.F.Ottem as the later commented a slang word towards the Indian students.
From his early boyhood subhas was a great disciple of Swami Vivekananda. He was deeply moved by the preaching of Vivekananda and he was so obsessed with Swamiji that Subhas considered him as his spiritual guru.
Subhash's father wanted him to become a civil officer . So he sent him to England for the study of I.C.S. He stood fourth in the I.C.S. examination and he scored the best result in english. Though He became I.C.S officer , he resigned the service and came back to India and join in to the politics. His urge in participating in politics gave him a recognizing place.
After that he came in touch of Indian National Congress and his presence in the congress gave the party a new force. But when he joined in Indian politics directly , congress was in a dilemma .
Regarding congress strategy to oppose British raj in future , congress was divided into two groups one was moderate led by Mohandas k Gandhi and the other one was anti-moderate led by Chittaranjan Das and Motilal. Subhas chandra was a strong supporter of Mr. Das. He considered Chittaranjan das as his political guru. When Chittaranjan Das and Motilal were busy in forming a new party within the congress named as “Swaraj Party”, Subhas was trying to accumulate the youth of the country for his great mission. During this time Subhas acquired immense popularity within the common people.
At this time other moderate congress party leaders including Gandhi tried to dominate Subhas . They were often insulting him. During the election of congress it was anticipated that M.K.Gandhi will be nominated as the congress president but in huge votes Subhas Chandra was elected . Subhas chandra was nominated as the congress president twice one was Tripura congress and other was Haripura congress.
As a result of his immense popularity , he was the center of pungent attack of almost all moderate leaders. Jawaharlal Nehru was so irritated that he pungently attacked on him by saying “IF SUBHAS WOULD BRING SOLDIERS FROM OUTSIDE AND THE ENTIRE INDIA THEN I WOULD BE THE FIRST PERSON TO TAKE SWORD AND OPPOSED HIM”
Meanwhile the second World War had already been broken out in September 1939 and the British Govt. in India declared India as a warning country without discussing the Indian leaders. At this time British Govt. was exploiting Indian resources for the British soldiers. He told that there is no sense of extracting Indian men and resources. However the British govt. arrested him for instigating the people. He was sent to prison. As he was fall in serious illness due to starvation in the prison , Subhas was kept in interim in his own house. But from there went in disguised and traveled to Kabul.Since then the British govt. failed to search him for a long time . From there he went to Germany for Indian freedom and the German govt. also assured him. His broadcasting from a German radio station gave a terrible shock to the British government and also inspired the Indian masses . In a hazardous trip he went from Germany to Japan through a submarine. The Japan govt. welcomed him and promised him to give all kind assistance and he was announced as the head of the Indian National Army which was consisted of 40,000 army with other indians. the other Indian who united the soldier was Rash Behari Basu. Rash Behari gave all the responsibilities on Subhas and Subhas gave a new name to the army as AZAD HIND FUZE. On 21st October, 1943 AZAD HIND GOVERNMENT was formed. The AZAD HIND FUZE was divided in different groups like Subhas Brigade, Gandhi Brigade etc. The AZAD HIND FUZE first addressed him as “NETAJI”. Netaji motivated his army by telling that “GIVE ME BLOOD ,I SHALL GIVE YOU FREEDOM”. He addressed his army with the slogan “Dilli Chalo”(lets march to Delhi). Netaji is the first to use the slogan as”JAI HIND”. Subhas started his mission from east India. At first they attacked Andaman and Nicobar island and won two places .Subhas gave two name of these islands as SWARAJ and SAHEED. Through Burma they came in the main island of India. some soldiers laid down or some started kissing in the ground as they came after a long time to there own country. But this victory did not last long when America attacked Hiroshima and Nagasaki by nuclear bomb. As a result Japan govt. stopped supplying all the shipments. Besides due to bad weather many soldiers were died and they were also attacked by malaria and the mission became futile.
It is told that Subhas was died in a plane crash on 18 August 1945.Yet many controversies are still arousing regarding his death. The Indian Government also engaged many committee to investigate Subhas death. The Mukherjee committee told in 2006 that ”Bose did not die in plane crash and the ashes at Renkoji temple are not of his”
