Baha California is the home of the Boojum tree. At a first sight we resembles it as a cactus more than a tree. As the inner wood of the tree is remarkably soft and they grow up to 20m high, the thin trunks of the tree can grow in sinuous shapes. It is the ancient plant of Baha California desert.
So, its leaves are small and cover the trunk to protect water loss. The flowers of the tree blooms in summer and autumn at the very top of the trunks; they occur in short racemes, and are creamy yellow with a honey scent. The absurd poem ‘The Hunting of the Snark’ by Lewis Carroll, from where the name of the Boojum tree has been taken.“But if ever I meet with a Boojum, that day, In a moment (of this I am sure),I shall softly and suddenly vanish away —And the notion I cannot endure!”
